Costotransverse Joint Injections

The costotransverse joints are located at the junction of the rib and the vertebrae of the thoracic spine. It can become inflamed and cause severe pain if an injury or degenerative change occurs.

Pain is usually confined to the back and parallel chest wall, and is heightened from movement, activity and laying in certain positions.

Guided by an X-ray, we inject a local anaesthetic and steroid medication into the joint. This provides diagnostic information and pain relief for weeks to months. Injections are given and repeated as necessary.
